Special Features of
the MTG Media
Database
MARKETS ATTENDED.
The most special
feature of the
Database. As much
as possible, we
identify the markets
attended by each
contact. Markets
that we track
include NATPE, AFM,
MIPDOC, MIP-TV,
Cannes Film Market,
Los Angeles
Screenings, World
Educational Market,
DISCOP, Hong Kong
Filmart, MIPCOM JR,
MIPCOM and MIFED.
Thus, in your
preparations for an
upcoming market, you
can isolate just
those buyers that
attended that market
the previous
year--or are
pre-registered for
this year.
COMPANY.
Many broadcasters
have the same owners
(e.g. Canale 5,
Italia Uno and Rete
Quattro in Italy,
etc.). In such
circumstances, the
owner is often
listed first so that
the various
companies are
grouped together
(e.g. Mediatrade
Canale 5, etc.).
FAX.
Sometimes, the phone
and fax numbers of a
company are the
same. In such
cases, a dash is
connected to the end
of the number to
indicate that the
numbers are the
same. (E.g.
00-1-805-687-8037-)
ACTIVITY. We
identify the
activity of the
contact: buyer,
seller, producer or
acquisitions
executives.
(Acquisitions
executives are not
buyers. Rather,
they acquire product
for distribution to
other buyers.)
MAIN OR
ADDITIONAL CONTACT.
In most cases, you
will only want to
contact one buyer or
seller or producer
per company. We
have assigned one
contact per activity
(buyer, seller or
producer) at each
company as the
principal contact.
We base our choice
upon the contact
within the company
that is most likely
to make the decision
as to whether a
production will be
bought, sold or
produced.
Among our criteria
is the number of
markets recently
attended and the
position within the
company. At smaller
companies, the
President or
Managing Director is
usually the main
contact. At larger
companies, the head
of acquisitions or
sales is usually the
key contact.
MEDIA. We
identify the media
for each contact.
Theatrical, video
and television are
the principal
media. Television
is sub-divided into
program service
categories:
broadcast, cable,
satellite and
digital.
We have a separate
category for
contacts that buy
television rights
for resale to
program services.
GENRE. We
also have isolated
those program
services that "only
buy" a single genre
of programming (such
as movie channels,
sports channels,
etc.).
And, we also
identify contacts at
program services
that "only buy" a
single genre (such
as the childrens
program buyers at
BBC). If you are a
seller, this allows
you to focus on
those contacts that
are most likely to
be interested in a
film or program in
the genre that you
are selling.
