The Last Days of Hong Kong - future noir feature
in development
If ever there was a script for the times, this is
it. "The Last Days of Hong Kong" is noir-style
murder mystery set against the backdrop of political
intrigue in the days leading up to July 1, 2047,
when Hong Kong is fully assimilated into China and
"one country, two systems" ends.
This script (100 pages) has received high praise
from Hollywood readers, including CoverageInk which
said: "A well-written, intriguing, and heartfelt
science fiction noir that pays homage to past
classics like Blade Runner while using the backdrop
of current political unrest. Its characters are
complex, the mystery twisting, and the emotions
palpable."
What's happening in Hong Kong today has made this
story even more relevant. The budget is US$1.2M -
taking advantage of lower production costs in Asia
and a dedicated director and cast of actors willing
to stick their neck out to make such a film at a
time when screen storytelling has been compromised
to please the communist party of China. |
Hong Kong Stories TV series - available now
Hong Kong's Wan Chai district is the weekend
battleground for pro-democracy protestors and the
city's riot police. Petrol bombs, tear gas, rubber
bullets, smashed windows, graffiti. Prior to 1997 -
when the UK handed Hong Kong back to China - Wan
Chai still had a Suzy Wong bar and was a hangout for
expats bankers and Filipino house maids looking for
one night stands.
Wan Chai, circa 1997, provides the setting for the
first story in the Hong Kong Stories anthology
series. Six Hong Kong-themed, indie features have
been repackaged as 1-hour director's cuts for a
global audience. Titles include:
Wan Chai Baby (2010,
drama),
Betel Nut Girl (2013,
love story),
The Last Act
(2014,drama/mystery),
Lust and Found (2015,
action/comedy),
Love Stalk (2016,
suspense), and
Transformed (2017,
horror/sci-fi).
Available now for licensing in all territories.
In #Trolls We Trust - dramedy pilot in
pre-production
Russian internet trolls interfered in the US
elections. Now their Chinese equivalents are
targeting Hong Kong's pro-democracy movement on
Twitter and Facebook. Loyal communist party patriot
Mr Han has established the first state-backed troll
farm in Hong Kong to specifically target the English
speaking world - and he recruits Chinese uni
graduate Amanda as a trainee troll. Trouble is, her
mom is staunchly anti-communist, so Amanda's got to
keep her new job a secret. That's the premise for an
outrageous new dramedy pilot that promises to
deliver a lighthearted take on a serious subject.
Pilot script (30-min single camera format) is
written and casting is currently underway in Hong
Kong. Seeking backer/funding to complete 6 episodes.
